Was looking into gathering information on what is going on lately with Google serps. I have seen an overwhelming number of posts asking what happened to there sites rankings. I came across this article that stated

One of these experiments involves manipulating the search results not by Google’s automated machines but by Google users. In the screenshots provided, the green up and down arrows were being displayed at the end of every search results links. Clicking on those arrows influence future placing of the search results in Google SERPs the next time they are displayed.

However he linked to a new article on the Official Google Blog “Search experiments, large and small“. This system will only affect the natural search results that you see when you do a search while you are logged in to your Google account. It will not affect the natural SERP’s of anybody else.

So if you do not want to see a particular site turn up in the results of your searches, then you can vote it down, and it will not turn up when you do a search while logged in to your account. It acts as a personal filter of sorts.

So for anyone curious as to what has happened to there rankings this article will be of interest. This line explains a lot and answer quite a few people.

Okay, so not all of our experiments are insane eye tests. My main point in highlighting the above experiments is that we test almost everything, even things that you would think are so small that we could not possibly care (nor could they possibly matter). In fact, small changes do matter, and we do care.

Not to worry just continue to create quality content. Be sure to use anchor text to link your site to specific keywords i.e Make Money Online etc.

Post on do follow blogs and forums, but don’t spam, post responsibly and try to add to the discussion rather than making a short spam post. You’ll then start to see your SERPS rankings for those keywords go upwards. Although I am leaning towards Google giving less weight to backlinks and more to quality content when determining your placement in the serps. That is a different subject I will get to another day.
